11/06/16 Rovers Reunion

Doncaster Rovers Knee Injury

Huge thanks to our friends at Doncaster Rovers for helping some old men very happy!  When we heard one of our players from the 1991 team was unwell, a few of the team got together and decided we don't see enough of the old boys. So a 25 year reunion was born! We managed to get 23 Ex-Players together, travelling from all over the country to make the day possible. For any interested Rovers fans, the score finished 2-2 with Steve Adams, Lee Turnbull, Scott Maxfield and Roger McKenzie on the score sheet. And yes Rufus Brevett is still class - he never broke sweat!

A huge thanks to all the Rovers staff particularly Lauren, Alex and Jon for providing us with free pitch, referee, match kits and free entry to the Fan Park for the Euro's.

15/03/16 Paddy Considine

It's always great when famous faces pop in to our clinic.  In Sheffield filming 'The Journeyman', it was great to have Paddy call in again.  He has been round several local boxing gyms training hard to prepare for, and shoot scenes as a middleweight boxer.

13/03/16 Midlands Mountain Bike Series

It was a privilege to be asked to work at the Midlands Mountain Bike Series at Sherwood Pines this weekend.  Lee took our trusty Pop-Up physio tent and set to work helping all the mountain bikers in need of assistance at Round 1 of XCO.  The sun was out and there was some great racing in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few months as we will be at a couple more events.  Round 3 at Harlow Wood in Mansfield on 8th May and Round 4 on June 4th at Eckington Woods.

23/01/16 Qualitas Football Academy

As you know I always love working with young footballers, and the Qualitas Football Academy has some potentially great future players.  I particularly love it when Gavin Bailey the Qualitas Director asks if I can help provide physiotherapy at games.  Travelling to various academies around the country can be a real eye opener.  This trip with our U16's to Manchester City was no different.

The pictures below show the only sky blue 4G football pitch in the world, the amazing view that the City boys get to see everyday, and a squad photo after the game.

For the record, it was a 3-3 draw between Qualitas and Man City Development Academy with 2 of City's goals coming from the penalty spot and a dubious finish from an off-side position!

06/10/15 Dalton Smith

                Boxing Shoulder Injury Physiotherapy Sheffield

It's always great to see emerging talent in Sheffield, and this young man is no exception. Dalton Smith is a young boxer in the GB Squad.  He's training hard towards gaining a place in the Olympic teams for Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.  As a clinic we always enjoy working with top professionals, and although this lad is still an amateur he's already training like a pro.  He is 5x National and GB Champion, and his trophy cabinet is full of medals from European, Commonwealth Championships too.  Dalton is always a pleasure to work with and we expect big things from him. Remember the name!

               Ankle Pain Sports Injury Sheffield

Many thanks to boxing promoter Dennis Hobson and his family for inviting us to the Fable Epilepsy Charity Black Tie event at the Sheffield City Hall.  Although I'm not a fan of the X-Factor, I thought Jake Quickenden was fantastic playing the guitar and singing his own songs - very Ed Sheeran!  Lots of money was raised for a fantastic cause and a great time was had by all.  Great to chat to Jake about his time playing non-league football and how he was sat in the stands with my pal Jamie Smith last week after Jamie was sent off!

06/05/15 Qualitas Football Academy Sheffield

Getting the opportunity to work outside the clinic is always exciting.  I previously worked at Huddersfield Town FC Academy and so I have always enjoyed working with junior footballers.  When Gavin Bailey from Qualitas approached our Sports Physio Academy to help their young aspiring footballers it was something I couldn't turn down.  The academy is a 'grass roots' soccer academy that provide everything form 1-to-1 coaching, group sessions and school sessions.  Many youngsters have already gone on to sign professional contracts, and looking at the standard when we attend, I'm sure there will be many more to follow!

As you know we like to work with athletes from all sports and particularly like to support local Sheffield teams.  So it was lovely for our friends at the Sheffield Steeldogs to invite my sons football team to come and watch a game as well as spend time on the ice and try to score.  A big thanks particularly to  forward Lloyd Gibson for sorting the arrangements for us.

24/08/14 River Rat Race

Trail running Injury Ankle Sheffield Physio

I ran the River Rat Race earlier today, which was my fourth obstacle race this year.  I was so pleased when the consultant told me I could run again a few years ago.  From being told many years ago that I shouldn't run, or play football due to the arthritis in my knees I now feel I have my life back.  11 knee operations including 2 ACL repairs obviously has affected the biomechanics of my knees but regular stretching and exercise allows me to compete in races like this.  The photo above courtesy of Spartan Race shows me jumping over a fire pit in a race earlier this year.

A great day out was had by the Sheffield Spartan Race team. Pre-match interview / photo's - Mark Roe & Sgt Chris Nicholson - Help for Heroes

The big day is looming where the army young guns take on the "experienced" ex-Donny Rovers youth team.  Will Sports Injury Clinic Sheffield - Mark Roe Sports Physio Sheffieldit be like riding a bike for the ex-pro's or will the stamina from our brave soldiers prevail?  The kit arrived from Toga Sports  - and the buzz in clinic has been electric since.  Massive thank you again to Dennis Hobson Promotions for kit sponsorship meaning every penny raised can be donated to charity.

Thanks to Chris for happily posing for photo's and taking part in a pre-match interview which we'll be posting once edited.  Both predicting a tight game but with charity being the winner.  The odds are stacked in favour of the Army lads, not least because their average age AND weight is preferable!!  Some good questions from Sarah which will make the cut, and some downright silly ones which won't - or for legal reasons, can't!   Made her laugh anyway!

Happy Christmas!  Our Christmas Message to you from the Mark Roe Sports Physio Academy in Sheffield - Rudolph AKA Lucas Roe!

Mark had his first golf lesson with Jason Ripley at Rother Valley today.  What a top bloke!  Great experience.  As a golf novice, he gave simple advice, didn't over complicate things and gave excellent tips for me to work on between now and next session.  I've got a lot of catching up to do to get to Tom Doran's level, but I'm sure Jason will help me along the way.  If your golf needs help - go and see him!
