Having worked with a few of the team before (at Sheffield FC, and Keep Moat stadium), we have been invited to provide match day sports physiotherapy for the M1 Charity Football team. Loads of great matches coming up throughout the summer. One of which is just down the road at Chesterfield FCs new ground. You will have seen most of the players on your TV screen at some stage as most are soap actors (Corrie, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Shameless etc), Big Brother contestants, or ex-professional footballers. Come and support us. Click here to take you to the fixture list!

Sheffield Darts Legend and Formed World Champion John Walton very kindly invited us to this years World Championships at Lakeside. Here Mark and Belper Town skipper Ben Leonard share a drink with Jonn and 2011 World Champion Martin 'Wolfie' Adams. Many thanks to John and his family for their hospitality, particularly his wife Sally. Lots of people in fancy dress, and many friendly people (due to alcohol!?). If you have never been before, it's a great day out.
A fantastic sunny day July 2011, and a great turn out for the Weston Park 10k race at Graves Park in Sheffield. There was a fantastic atmosphere from all involved right from the fun runners in the 3k race, up to the serious (and not so serious) racers in the 10k event. The race was started by former olympic athlete Joslyn Hoyte-Smith and was won by Kevin Lilley (men) and Rebecca Howarth (women). Further details and pictures can be found by clicking here. Here James and Mark show off the race day treatment gazebo where they looked after all the tired legs! Many thanks to Anne Kirtley from Sweatshop for help pointing the athletes in our direction.
June 2011 saw us invited back to work on the return match for the Hallam FM Cash for Kids appeal between Hollyoaks pretty boys and Hallam FM. A great day all round, and it was nice to see some of our pals in the Hallam FM team who played last year, and also our friends in the Hollyoaks team who also play for the M1 Charity side. Mark, Mike and Paul provided the physiotherapy to both teams. Many thanks to Katy at Hallam FM for the hospitality and invite and to the players who gave a good account of themselves. Hollyoaks ran out 6-2 winners. Always next year for the Hallam team! Many thanks to people who donated to such a worthy charity.
This story made the Sheffield Star newspaper in May 2011 as Peter Williams travelled all the way from Inverness having found us through an internet search for physiotherapists who have worked with pro boxers. Click here for the Sheffield Star article. He booked with us for 5 hours for a review with our physio's, chiropractor and sports masseur to help diagnose, treat, and set up rehab programmes to help him recover from several long standing injury problems. Peter was a promising boxer as an amateur and we wish him all the best to get his career back on track.
In April this year we were priviledged to have been invited by the Dancing on Ice Team to come and work with the performers for the week leading upto the Show in the Motorpoint arena in Sheffield. Whilst providing theSports Massage we met some brilliant people and had some good fun. Many thanks to Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean for their hospitality and for providing our staff with tickets which brought a big smile to our reception staff as often they get overlooked. I know it's cheesy, but i had to include a photo of Ice Ice Baby himself who was a fantastic performer and all-round nice guy and winner of the evenings performance Hayley Tammadon who was equally lovely! Click here to go to the tour website.
The big day is looming where the army young guns take on the "experienced" ex-Donny Rovers youth team. Will
it be like riding a bike for the ex-pro's or will the stamina from our brave soldiers prevail? The kit arrived from Toga Sports - and the buzz in clinic has been electric since. Massive thank you again to Dennis Hobson Promotions for kit sponsorship meaning every penny raised can be donated to charity.
Thanks to Chris for happily posing for photo's and taking part in a pre-match interview which we'll be posting once edited. Both predicting a tight game but with charity being the winner. The odds are stacked in favour of the Army lads, not least because their average age AND weight is preferable!! Some good questions from Sarah which will make the cut, and some downright silly ones which won't - or for legal reasons, can't! Made her laugh anyway!
Mark recently had a night out with his ex-Doncaster Rovers team mates. He had a great night reminiscing and it seems that the boys still have the passion for the game in their blood. Mark had a great idea that they should all get together for a game of football and whilst at it, try and raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity. They will be taking on the Fourth regiment royal artillery LAD team - mechanics and technicians that repair the equipment. If you know anyone that would like to help in any way, even by just raising awareness of this please get in touch info@markroesportsphysio.co.uk or 0114 2390022. Thanks to Dronfield Rugby Club at Gosforth Fields for donating a pitch free of charge http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/dronfield/
If you have a few spare pennies and can not attend, please donate whatever you can at:

There was a great turnout at Baldwin's Omega for Sheffield FC's 153rd anniversary gala dinner. The auction raised thousands of pounds for the club's Boots for Africa charity where prizes such as Howard Webb refereeing a junior game, Howard Webb taking 2 guests to a premiership match for the VIP experience and signed merchandise from Michael Vaughn etc were up for grabs. Mark even won a raffle prize - some champagne glasses! Time to buy the champagne......and yes, for the eagle-eyed - Sarah & Mark have the same outfit on as below!! It is criminal!
Mark attended the boxing event promoted by Dennis Hobson at the luxurious Hotel de France in Jersey. The event had several special guests, not least our city's own boxing legend Clinton Wood's and Roy Jones. Well done to all of Sheffield's fighters who won comfortably, in particular Liam Cameron who Mark sponsors - he put on an impressive display. The night was not without its shock factor as during Tim Witherspoon Jnr's fight his shoulder dislocated!!! Sarah's jaw quite literally hit the floor but Mark was ready to spring into sports physio mode! The referee made him redundant though and popped it back into place much to everyone's relief. Tim went on to win the fight, well done to him. The following morning guess who was in the breakfast room of Sarah & Mark's hotel (the gorgeouse La Haule Manor)? It was only Tim Witherspoon Senior and Junior! That is one breakfast chat they won't forget in a while!
Thanks to our Sports Massage Therapist who worked at the Great Yorkshire Run supporting the Sheffield Children's Hospital charity. A fantastic event here in Sheffield with impressive finishing times. Well done to everyone who took part whether running or working. James was very busy with lots of aching limbs after the run!
Congratulations to John Walton. His form continues to improve, following his recent victory in the pentathlon, John won the England Masters darts tournament in Stockport.
Mark, Paul, Tom and James provided the physio and sports massage for the match at Doncaster Rovers Keepmoat Stadium between Hallam FM All Stars and Hollyoaks Boys. A great day out for all concerned, and most importantly it was a great fundraiser for Hallam FM's Cash for Kids Charity with almost £15,000 being given. Many thanks to Hallam FM. Here, James shares a joke with Anthony Quinlan (who plays Gilly). Further pictures are available on the Hallam FM's website. Donations can be made to the cause by logging onto www.justgiving.com/hahc
Great night of boxing at the Donny Dome. Watched Liam 'Cannonball' Cameron continue his perfect professional record. Saw a great fight which saw Curtis Woodhouse (also Sheffield FC player) beat Stefy Bull, and top of the bill Jamie McDonnell looked impressive beating Rodrigo Bracco of Italy. Jamie looks in line to become Doncasters first ever world boxing champion.
Just got back from Old Trafford, after working for the victorious Rest of The World Team against England for Soccer Aid and UNICEF. What a fantastic experience! Many thanks to the Fulham FC medical staff for inviting Mark to work with them. We made some great friends and learned many new things. Also many apologies to Nicky Byrne from Westlife, as Sarah stood on his toes with her very pointy shoes at the aftershow party back at the hotel!
Some cracking banter, lots of drinks and very funny stories particularly from Paddy McGuiness, and Patrick Kielty. Plus actually working with legends such as Zidane, Figo, Giggs and Shearer was a dream come true. Thanks again guys. Please click on the Soccer Aid link to see further details. Cheers
Worked at Bramall Lane for Meadowhall League Cup Final between Packhorse Inn and Royal Earl FC. Favourites Earl ran out 2-1 winners, with a dubious handball asisting the second goal. Packhorse offered a plucky fight back despite some tired legs. Many thanks to Nathan for a brilliant evening, good luck next season boys, and congratulations to Lenny on his deserved Man of the Match award.
Physio at Galactosaemia tournament at Sheffield United's training ground at Shirecliffe. A great day for all concerned, particularly Hawleys Tyres FC who won the tournament. Picture of Mark with Hawleys skipper, and old pal from Rotherham United, Stu Ford, to follow. The England Band, and Roman Android kept everyone's spirits up in the dodgy weather.
Caiden Onfroy wins his fourth boxing match. A second round stoppage continues Caiden's unbeaten record.
Richard Caborn, the Prime Ministers Ambassador for the 2018 World Cup officially opened our sports injury clinic today. Here he is pictured, cutting the green ribbon with the help of Tom, Sheffield Therapy Centre Manager Sarah and Mark. After the opening, Richard did the draw to provide a local football team with kit sponsorship for next season. See www.sheffieldtherapycentre.co.uk for more events there.
Our friend Scott Heaton came 2nd in the European Powerlifting Championships. Already Champion of England and Wales, Scott now qualifies for a trip to Iceland in June, and the World Championships in November. Here he is doing a deadlift of 333.5kg! Good Luck Scott!
James Marvin, Sports Masseur works at the Sheffield Half Marathon and sees some pretty gruesome injuries! One of the more common ones being nipple rash causing profuse bleeding. Next time guys don't forget to grease up!! Well done to all our runners. Having problems loading some of your photo's, so bear with us.
He's getting too predictable now! Another win for boxer Liam Cameron! Would it really have been any other result?!
Attended a training course at Sheffield United's ground looking at treatment of tendonopathies, such as injuries to the achilles tendon and patella tendon. Physio to the England football team Gary Lewin was a guest speaker. Unfortunately he didn't give any clue as to whether Fabio would include me in his final 23 man playing squad, but he did pose for a photo!
Just finished working at Sheffield FC Old Boys Vs Chris Waddles All Stars (although Chris wasn't playing today!). Great to see a few old pals from Sheffield such as Rob Ward, Pete Davey and Daz Homes all looking surprisingly slim. A fair amount was raised for charity and there were no serious injuries so a good day all round.
Invited to physio for ASD Appio from Rome. My Itallian is pretty poor but I managed to chat about Lazio, Gazza and DiCanio (I think!). The result wasn't great for the visitors, but a great night for all. Good Luck to ASD Appio and hopefully see you all in Rome next year.
Mark had his first golf lesson with Jason Ripley at Rother Valley today. What a top bloke! Great experience. As a golf novice, he gave simple advice, didn't over complicate things and gave excellent tips for me to work on between now and next session. I've got a lot of catching up to do to get to Tom Doran's level, but I'm sure Jason will help me along the way. If your golf needs help - go and see him!
John Walton helps the English team to a win over Wales (13-7) in the Nations Cup. At the end of the tournament he was presented with a special award for a 9 dart finish in the final. Congratulations fella!
Woodhouse West End have just signed up to our physio academy. I think there's a few old legs out there, that have been dragged out of retirement this season (Eh, Nev!)
Just watched Liam Cameron continue his unbeaten pro-boxing record by beating Kevin McCauley 60-55 at a packed Sheffield City Hall.
- Publication - Sheffield Physio ArtcileFirst E11even magazine is released today. On sale at all GT News outlets in Sheffield. It's a good read, if you are a fan of local football, as professional and semi-pro clubs have coverage. (Plus Mark's article is in there!)
Invited to attend a charity ball at Sheffield Wednesdays ground in aid of Cash for Kids and MacMillan Cancer Care. All our staff had a good night especially Sarah and Maria judging by this photo of them in 3D specs! Not sure how they got hold of them??
Our pal Lee Chesters was on Radio Sheffield today talking about his career as a professional Thai boxer, and his life as a professional footballer in his late teens. Here he is winning a fight (with this kick) early in his career.

Local Boxer Liam Cameron has become the latest athlete to be sponsored for physiotherapy at the Mark Roe Sports Physio Academy. He starts training for his next fight on 20th February, at the Sheffield City Hall. Watch this space for further details. As well as punching people til they fall over, Liam is also a male model. Here, Mark helps him to look even better.
John Walton very kindly wears his Sheffield Therapy tee shirt on BBC TV, before the World Championships. Unfortunately he makes an early exit, and Martin Adams goes on to win the trophy.
Mark has been asked to write an article for first E11even magazine with regards to physiotherapy and football. He’s now spending hours on the computer claiming to his wife Sarah that this is all “research” and that he’s “not playing championship manager”.
Our Sports Therapist James Marvin, has just reported back from his evening at the Sheffield Arena where MUSE asked him to massage their weary bodies. Knowing James, he probably asked if he could get up and sing with them! Here he is with bassist Chris Wolstenholme.
Tom Doran, has just taken up a post of Yorkshire Golf Union Mens and Ladies Amateur Squads as the Golf Conditioning and Rehab Specialist. We really need to organise a charity golf day for staff and patients. The only problem is, there’s only Tom who’s any good!
Brinsworth Whitehill, Middlewood Rovers, and Greenhill JFC, are the latest junior football teams to sign up to the Mark Roe sports Physio Academy
